The only reference to the 'z-bolt heatsink' in Doc's oh so amazingly useful response refers to http://www.z-bolt.com/order/Product240 which has been replaced with HS-1A linked above.
In any case, I am expecting a new A140 projector to arrive next week which will allow me to restart testing of when the thermal cutoff kicks in, and take a more detailed analysis of the diode current in various operating modes.
edit:
I spent some time with the microscope and have determined the stripe width on these diodes is ~20um. Shown below is a sem micrograph, and a few visible light pictures of the diode. I couldn't get the whole die in focus at once due to the shape of the housing, but it is symmetric front to back so just use your imagination.

I would like to add that these diodes are amazing, I accidentally turned one on with NO heatsinking, it was bright, dimmed quickly and let out a puff of smoke...
put it back in the heatsink and turned it back on, it was doing the exact same power as pre-smoking!

I have attached a zip with an 8x14 array of x-rays, which cover the entire motherboard/diode driver board (both of these boards are 4-layer boards, so the xray helps tracing down traces).
If anyone is bored and feels like stitching them together to form a proper image be my guest!
I fitted a 140 diode to one of Dave's lovely brass mounts with glass AR lens, and then to an ali base with fan. Running @ 1250mA no issues, yet. Given the content of this thread I will reduce this down to 1000-1100mA.
This space for rent.
