Halloween 2022 plans?

Hey, Laser Haunters!

I am curious to know what everyone has planed for their Halloween setup, if setting up this year. After two years of covid, it's time for me to get back out there. At this point, I don't even care if anyone shows up for candy, I am doing this for me. It's been far too long and I miss it!!

My setup is going to be about the same as it has been for a number of years. I keep the same base setup (traditional cemetery with attached lab) but I add more and more to it each year. In 2019, the latest addition was some faux stone pillars to hide my DMX lighting. This year, I have been constructing two new tombstones. Without getting too political, one of them is going to be inscribed with "Auntie Vaxx, She did her own research". I wanted to add "RIP, Karen" but my wife thought it might be too provocative, so I am deciding to forego the "Karen" bit. I'm also thinking of having a cauldron in the middle of the yard, à la Harry Potter Voldemort resurrection style. Under it, projected fire onto a screen. This will also be hiding the ADJ Fog Fury Jett fogger to blast a vertical geyser of green lit fog at interval, up through the bottom of the cauldron.

I am making a few minor upgrades to my fogscreen. Over the years, some of the 3D printed parts have started to warp in the heat of my garage and now that I have an 80W co2 laser cutter with a passthrough, I can cut acrylic sheets to my own specifications. Considering the fogscreen held up for 6 years, I hold that the 3D printed parts did a hell of a job.

I have also mixed a new audio track and choreographed the DMX lighting through Beyond. I am using some higher quality thunder audio clips that are in FLAC format instead of the mediocre quality clips that I lifted from YouTube. I am still using my Telarc: Chiller opening track because, 1: It's a staple. 2: It sounds terrific. 3: It really fits the mood like nothing else.

So, Lazerjock, Polishedball, any other haunters... what are you guys doing this year?

I hope too, we will see how big it gets. Biggest issue is fighting the weather here in Mi, drives ya nuts to put in so much time then get rained or worse the wind taking it out.

I know what you mean. I mean, not to the same extent. I think I have only been rained out once. I have been fortunate that the southern California weather has been kind. Hopefully you'll have some smooth sailing though because it is a lot of work!

How do you do that rain/fog effect with the eyeball? Is that just a scrim and the rain effect is in the video?

That is done using my DIY fogscreen. Of all of my Halloween props/effects, it's my pride and joy and the thing I brag about the most lol.

Wow! I hadn't seen your other thread until now. This is beyond awesome. And also nothing I can build. I was hoping for a simple little project to build before Halloween. What an amazing effect!

Thank you! I'm sure anyone could build one but it takes a lot of time and planning. The two that I built were years in the making. The first one was built out of wood and I used drinking straws for my laminar honeycomb!

I Have been toying around with the idea of building them to sell but building them as a non-complete unit. Basically, you get the chassis and all the electronics but you'd need to supply the ultrasonics and fans. That way, I think I'd be safe from patent infringement. My only hiccup is that most of mine was machined at home with hand tools. I am looking into getting a CNC Plasma table since a fiber laser cutter is way outside of my price range and the units are too big for my garage. If I could get CNC precision, it would shave off so much time as well as looking and functioning on a more professional level. There are a few people that have expressed interest in buying one, both here and on HalloweenForum.

You may be right but it would be a precautionary thing because I honestly don't know. Of course, I would spec exactly which fans/ultrasonics to use and have everything ready for hookup.
