    I agree,

First hes a normal seller, then junk aircraft plans CD then CD then CD then CD then Laser? there is a problem pattern here.

    hey gamble-

i think it is concluded to try and stay away from LaserWorld. it is inevitably your choice though of course. I HONESTLY think that $1500-$2000 could be spent MUCH MUCH MUCH better here building it yourself.

start small with the idea in mind to add on as you go. start with a green, your scanners, the case and software. add in your red 2 months down the road. add in your blue 2 months after that. we can all help you through your build. we're a bunch of laser building geekazoids. LOL. we start to drool and shake with anticipation when one of our members has a new build going on...

i think the knowledge, pride and far superior result you would get from doing this yourself is DRASTICALLY going to outweigh the learning curve and longer waiting than buying a piece of crap pre-fab unit.

obviously i can help ya out with most of the products you will need. but we can discuss that through PM if you are interested. i dont want you to think i chimed in just to try and sell you some stuff.

On the contrary, I joined this forum precisely for this kind if info and you guys were awesome, I was sold on that thing till I decided to try and get some product reviews. Then I came across the review of the laserworld proline 750mw rgb by majorlee (props by the way for that), and after reading that's when the red flags came up. I'm more than willing to try to build one on my own because you're right, I will appreciate it more but I would'nt know where to start. This would be a prodject that I do entirely, in a sense, under your guys supervision. Does anyone have maybe have a video I can sample of one they built themselves? What are the basic components that make up a projector?

I just figured out that most ot the items listed by eBay seller betelguz are copies of other, legitimate sellers auctions. In the case of the super cheap Laserworld RS-500RGB listings, the auctions are a bad copies of seller lep-laser's auctions, including links to lep-lasers other auctions!

So it's obviously fraud and I've reported it to eBay.

The basic components of a projector are:

    - case/chassis to keep everything in :-)

    - cooling fans

    - power supply (obviously)

    - scanners, which consist of:
    - - galvos and
    - - servo amp cards (these usually come as a pair

    - one or more lasers
    - optical elements to combine the lasers (usually dichros)

    - an optical table (slab of metal to mount the optical components to)
    - lots of wiring

    - parts required for CDRH compliance- remote kill switch, key switch, scanner failure detection card, mechanical shutter. You don't *need* these if you're just playing at home, but if you live in the USA and you want to play in public you will need them.

    - a controller (usually a DAC)

There are several kinds of DAC that are popular. From expensive to cheap:

    - Pangolin QM2000 - if not the Rolls-Royce of DAC, then certainly the Mercedes S-Class

    - Pangolin FlashBack3 - has many of the advantages of the QM2000 but is much cheaper

    - EasyLaseUSB - very hackable, drivers widely available, nice for software projects

    - USB DACs sold by many of the software vendors, of varying price and quality

    - various parallel port devices (obsolete, avoid)

    - modified sound card with correction amplifier

    Have I missed anything?

Additionally, the specs list it as 75mw/75mw/250mw GBR accordingly. How does that add up to 500mW?

Check out the gallery, it has lots of photos of projector builds and provides a great reference for different ideas.

I can't thank you guys enough for helping me out. Now my only concern is that in order to build my own I need to become more familiar with building electronics and the way lasers function, is there a book or something that is out there for beginners?
