I would have said something sooner, but I didn't even put it together until today. There are so many variables when it comes to how people test the output from projectors. I would imagine that's why Bill Benner says that using a scope is the best way... Unless you're driving them CW with some external voltage on the modultion inputs, you're not getting a good reading since the laser is always being modulated while displaying ilda frames.

I assume you have measured each module by removing it from it's modulation circuit and applying 5VDC to get a CW beam?

The blue is also below spec but not nearly as much as the red and green. I did switch the green to the blue lines and only noticed a small increase in power up to 130mW. The only means of an external 5V supply I have access to is a battery pack. I tried that but my results were the same as the FB3.
Is this method of achieving 5V to the modulation lines acceptable?
Also I have measured countless lasers with this meter in the last year and have not found any measurements that seemed suspect to me in terms of matching up with others testing as well as brightness and burning capabilities.

I can't see any reason why your battery pack wouldn't work.. you could also use a computer power supply since they provide 5VDC and 12V. It still could be the lasers somehow, but I'm surprised by that since the system was apparently running great at a recent LEM.. Regardless, I hope you get it sorted soon!

    Cool

I definitely think some further research is in order. I've seen this projector in person TWICE, and it performed flawlessly both times. For sure it wasn't lacking in power at all.

In fact, I'm almost positive that Mo checked the power output of this projector using both my LaserCheck and my thermal power meter (which is a home-built, but is based on a Coherent detector and has been checked against other calibrated units and shown to be reasonably accurate).

Thanks Buffo. i will be testing this projector with a couple different DAC's on saturday and hopefully that will be the solution.

Thank you Adam. I knew we tested this but I could not recall for sure. I recall it giving the Kvant a hell of a run for its money... and the Kvant tested at 1W out the front!

Yobresal... if you still want a second opinion on the FB3... send it out. I will test it out for you and report. Also, since I live 10 minutes from Pango HQ, I wouldn't have an issue taking it in for a looksie by the people who made it

I already replied in the other thread, but yeah, just to confirm - this projector appeared to be just as bright as Aaron's 1 watt KVANT when we had them both running side-by-side at FLEM. I think there are a couple videos floating around... If we look around we should be able to see some where both the KVANT and Yobresal's unit are visible in the frame.

Glad to hear that further testing is being done. I suppose it's possible that something has failed inside the projector, but I have a hard time believing that all the lasers have dropped in output power. (Especially when it was so bright to begin with.) Gotta be something else going on...

Okay that sounds good. I will have it sent out to you. The FB3 that is.

    Good deal.

Any results from any other testing on the projector?

Well I started off to his house on saturday and got caught in the middle of some darn parade/festival. There were thousands of people everywhere and I couldn't get more than 10 ft every 10 minutes. I ended up giving up the voyage and turning back home when I realized I could not even get past market street. On the up side there were a lot of titties being flashed.
