i got wind of an "unofficial" inventory list of lasers used:

    (2) Arctos 20W RGB
    (6) Arctos 8-10W RGB
    (4) 40W LaserScopes

Over a million dollars in lasers!!!

My neighbors, who know nothing about lasers, said they thought it was really cool.

This is a good sign that the average person is acknowledging the technology.
You figure with all of the stage, lights, pyro and the music its self they still noticed the lasers.

I thought only a 532nm too until the end.
    Amazing color!!

Yeah. Red at either 650 nm or 640 nm. Green at 532 nm, and blue at 445 nm. Almost all of their projectors have huge multi-diode arrays in them. Optical paths are quite involved, but the results are stunning. Here's a pic under the hood of one:

Only problem is that they are *really* expensive. But if you're in the market, Lightwave International is the sole US distributor. (And yeah, they are the guys that pulled off the Pink Floyd: Dark Side of the Moon album cover "laser pyramid" effect...)

Hmmm. I would have liked to see the lasershow.
Yeah, Arctos combine many lasers of the same color using a clever means of stacking beams parallel to one another, then overlay the RGB outputs concentrically.
The biggest problem is a really fat output beam ( 6 mm or larger ) compared to a gas laser ( 1 to 2 mm max ) . Most galvos that have mirrors big enough to handle the Arctos laser output won't be able to do graphics shows very well due to the slowed galvo performance (because of the large mirrors they have to move).

I too thought it was a couple laerscope up until the colors started coming in. I watched it in 1080 HD on my TV, and I was gasping at the beauty... I have it recorded on the DVR for repetitive enjoyment!

I would agree that it was 640, 532, 440. My guess is well over 100W of total power there. Also, I think the lower set were CVL pumped, but the upper deck (some 6 or so projectors) were full color RGB. It had to be amazing to be sitting right there between the two sets of laser projectors...

There were some shots that showed fatter beams, those seemed to me like they were 'laser lights' or whatever they're called with filters on them... There are shots that showed them scanning the crowds with these... and you could tell they were bright... lol

On the other hand, what did everyone think of the LED stage? That was COOL! Yes, the lasers were cooler... of course.

    Unhappy

Nice show, but this thread exposes why I have been hanging on the fence about taking the plunge into big solid state.

532nm is fine- I have it

but the other wavelenghts- enough isnt enough-

ten watt units wont cut it as a replacement to large frame mixed gas ( to me, some feel differently )- this show proves that to me, as well as my in person side by side comparisions

over ten, most demoed units where very green heavy

    under ten watts- different story

the overall lighting design crutched the other laser colors to be persuasive

again very nice but I crave more power outside 532

other colors- still rather use big argon and krypton pairs- yes I am exempted from certain events due to size/power/water hassles

but I would have to go with at least four 25 watt rgb units to be happy-

I recently completed a project for the film industry- 4 large frame argon, tubes rolled, water cooled optics- combined- etc etc >70 watts of blue-
beam diameter 8 inches- thats what they wanted- a blue death ray

I'll share those details at the next flem

that was the only way it could be done-

    decisions decisions the agony
    go big or go home

AMEN... even the 'Arctos' 2W and 5W's are rediculously green... We have been very impressed with the RGB Systems' latest-Gen systems, the Compact 2 and 4's are very nice - we are eagerly awaiting an 8W - should be 'close' to a 171 WL, for most indoor-gigs, anyway...

And they'd still probably be too green-heavy... Tarm advertizes a 12W all-OPSL that sounds nice - has Cohr's new OPSL Red... drool... drool...

    Hey Jon,

Will reveal documentation to a few at flem. Cant post now or may get willey wonka'ed via nda

In person, we'll chat it up no problem

Total argon power was about 116.5 watts- two innova i100s around 28 watts each- a i400, and sabre -around 31.5 each- my babies-
most large frames as you know settle in around 22-24watts

demoed a cvl- but no green was a specific requirement

cut and dumped 514 - sent everything else to the combiner stage- which was do-able since I was up collimating for the
    larger beam-
    go big or go home

Undersood - been working on a couple album-release gigs / videos out here in 'Tinseltown', recently, so know all-about the 'QT'... ...Will look forward to seeing that much blue... sexxxxy...

PS - have a 171 Ar doing about 22W, originally did 27, looking for a good home, in case you ever need back-up, etc... it's here, but have OEM crate-in-crates, and at least once a year, we send a truck W > E and can truck something down, if yever need... but we're keeping our Sabre WLs - decided that recently..not ready to give those up for 'peanuts'... extra Purelights, ok, fine, but not the Sabres.. And I know you've got plenty of resources down-there for B/U, but just a friendly fyi...
