I've only just come to this thread and its already scaring the sh*t out of me.
From what I've read you're intending to audience scan with a Laserscope? Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't laserscopes pulsed?
In which case 40 watts x maybe 200 (I understand individual pulses can be up to 200x the stated power) = 800 watts - potentially = lots of very blind people. Reference the Russian Incident!
Pulsed lasers should never be used for audience scanning.
just want to clear the above statement up. He never stated he wanted to audience scan (afaik). We were all just nervous that he did or was going to attempt it. Allen is a thick headed, arrogant know it all (sorry man) but i personally don't think he is dumb enough or *criminal* enough to audience scan with his Lscope.

...no, but if you're not reeeal careful, he just might pop a cap in your @$$: http://www.facebook.com/prodjallen ...now that's an LL
Allen, I will, for the final time, encourage you to ASAP get your Variance done and submitted - and again - you DON'T NEED TO WAIT to get your projector 'finished' to submit with its' approved report / acc.# - you can very easily AMEND before Sept - just take the hour / hour 'n 1/2 it should take, max, and get your Show Performance Variance app-in - you can file with the (what certainly must-be CERTIFIED, yes?) projectors of the "other Co." that "has a variance" - (...you know, the one you referenced when you rebuffed LaserBen and Spec (!) as-to why you're 'covered' / how you can legitimately offer shows, on your website "up-to 60W RGB and 80W Green"...clearly 'non-Chauvet' Class IV shows...)
If you truthfully, work with another Varianced Co, you should just be able to ask them for the Projector Variance #s or Accession #s, either one, and they should be happy to give that to you (if, in-fact, you DO work with them, and, in-fact, they, themselves are varianced / using Cert. gear, etc) - the CDRH doesn't care if the gear is not 'yours' / you x-rent - they only care that you are using Certified lasers and/or projectors/systems, under your Var.
Now, I KNOW you already KNOW all thisyadda yadda yadda - but, in the spirit of being helpful (which, is my motive in all this, contrary to what you might believe...) but here is the 'repository' for anything you might have 'missed': http://www.fda.gov/Radiation-Emittin.../ucm118907.htm
In-particular, this PDF - makes it all very clear, and quite straight forward... http://www.fda.gov/downloads/Medical.../UCM119257.pdf
Why do I 'remind' you? 2 reasons - #1, you seem to have 'forgotten' these fundamental points (again, if, in-fact, you have performed Class IV shows in-public, like you told Spec / others..)... quoted, from that PDF:
As of September 20, 1985, if you will be using a Class lllb or IV laser in light shows or displays, you must submit a variance application and receive an approved variance from FDA before a performance.
Before Class lllb or Class IV lasers are sold, used in performances, or otherwise introduced into commerce for demonstration or entertainment purposes, manufacturers must have an approved variance from FDA
Laser manufacturers include people who make laser products and people who receive compensation to design, assemble, or modify a laser projector and/or light show.
This means that a musical group or others are considered manufacturers if they assemble a show. . . even if the act of manufacture is simply setting up a show in a particular location or changing a general purpose laser to light show use, without adding any new laser components.
Anyone who operates laser light shows without an approved FDA variance or who otherwise violates the FDA laser safety standard may be subject to a court injunction andlor civil penalties (fines up to $300,000) as provided for in Section 360C of the Radiation Control for Health and Safety Act.
...and #2, cause, like I said, I'm gonna help you, like it or not, and your time is running out to get his in before a 'freight-train', coming your way, arrives - and, forget 'Mark Geragos' - no lawyer in the world is going to be able to protect you from consequences of breaking Federal Law (for example: I might remind you of 'Scott Petersons' current 'whereabouts...) and what I am doing is NOT 'slander' nor a 'threat' - it is help. ...Think of this as 'tough love from a big brother'...Really - I do want see you succeed and I will be happy to teach you and help you - but only if you DO things RIGHT.
...But if you wanna reject this and keep-on even just illegally offering for-sale, Class IV shows on your site, etc, well, I suggest you go buy some hi-absorbency diapers next week, cause you're gonna need em.
peace..

...Yo, dog - lemme show U how it's done, son...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I1rWwVPF3MQ
...ya know, I had such fun with that mix, I think I'll give up lasers, and become an InternationalProDJ......Well, hopefully this will get our boy to come out of the woodwork...
Come on, Allen... let's get this done, dude... Apologise to your 'elders' (not me...), take the Class IIIb and IV laser show offerings OFF your site (just till you get your approval...) pledge, here on PL, you'll especially NOT do any more gigs with your 'scope', and I'll even help you - step by step - help you avoid the 'common mistakes' in Variance-app answers... But ya gotta do the first 2 steps first, or, no dice & you're on your own (and once you get a letter, God help you, cause even Mark Geragos won't be able-to then...) - dig?
peace out...
