Just thought I'd point out that the majority of the "faces in laser science" on this page are women:

Now if you're talking gorgeous sex-goddess women, those are probably a bit scarce in this field.

If Lasers emitted emotions rather than coherent light...
they would be all over them in seconds... IMO

When I started in this, two of Cambridge's sales engineers were women. Two very sharp, very attractive engineers hand picked by the company founder. Both could tune galvos. Both showed up at laser conferences. One got into it enough that she had a RGB system built for advertising for the company.
A while back I inquired what happened to them. One is a stay at home mom, the other left for a better position in a bigger company.

Lexel's East Coast Sales Engineer also designed their intracavity optics, including colorpro. Also female.

I could name a bunch of older female laserists and artistic directors...

I don't know about the new crowd.

But I fully expect Roberta to blast lasersbee any second.. If not Jasmine.. If Not Phyllis... JoAnne would not post here, she's too busy making a profit...

Coherent's marketing staff is quite integrated, as is SPs.

Fully half the marketing folks I buy materials from are female...

And there is one lady in OZ down under who is revolutionizing the development of solid state color conversion..

The pioneers thing is a little biased.

I saw that and immediately wrote it off as neo-feminist propaganda, along the lines of professional societies bending over backward to get girls interested in optics in general. Another example is the girls "superhero" with comic book just funded by Laserfest.

But I'm asking about women interested in lasers, not working with them as widgets because of their interest in marketing. Or art direction. Or holography, in which there are many women eagerly manipulating laser light and have been since the late '60s. I'm talking about lasers per say, and mostly handheld lasers. Working with the light is one thing, playing with the beam is a completely different thing.

Ask the women in your lives. Ask them to set aside all politeness and serve up some cold brutal honesty. Ask them what THEY think might be a fun thing to do with handheld lasers. Be creative. Be playful! Report their answers (audience appropriate) here.

hmm... good point. Didn't read that deeply into it. I don't really see anything too bad about trying to get more people interested in learning about lasers, especially women, but that's obviously going to make that link a bad reference.

My wife enjoys laser shows and she loves the fact that I can put together devices which will do laser shows, but she has zero interest in the inner workings. She doesn't care about handheld lasers, per se, but they're not a priority for me either. She also loves the fact that I can make music and she loves to listen to it, but she couldn't care less about learning how it's done. I'm just glad she likes to watch and listen, and I enjoy entertaining her. I think it would spoil her appreciation of these things if she wanted to know everything about them. That's just me, though.

My girlfriend can happily drive a PM 25 desk with the DPSS, or a PM 22 with a whitelight.

Puts on a good show too.

I think you'll probably find there's a good number of men who are cold to the idea of handheld lasers too.

Wow, that dot is sure a long way away on that building...

    Done.

Laser displays are a different matter (imho)

Me for one. Besides putting a dot on a screen during a presentation, what good (or fun) is a handheld laser?

    Blinding airline pilots maybe?
