The Playstation 3 is dual-use technology.

Personally I wouldn't worry about talking freely about laser enrichment; there's even been a hollywood movie about it ("The Manhattan Project!, with John Lithgow!)- unless I myself had privileged knowledge of such technologies. In that case I wouldn't say another word- because it might get me in trouble.

It's like, the folks at GCHQ or NSA can't talk about public key encryption (another dual-use technology!) even though that is public knowledge.

    Hi Heroic

Nice to see you back, you don't seem to have been around for a while. I, as i'm sure others do, miss your intelligent input

    Cheers

The etalons would give somebody the correct wavelength +/- 2 nm, if they were intended for this use..

Buffo, several lasers require export permits, green over 40 watts, Argon over 50 watts, and a heck of a lot of dye/tunable lasers . I know someone who got stopped at the border by the Canada Customs for trying to a take a 40 watt green into Canada, it can happen. (And please do NOT try to tell me that > 50 watt argons do not exist.. I know better)

Here is the list , no page numbers in the document (Argh!!!) , but lasers/optics start about 1/3 down the file:

You know, that might have been one of "Uncle Rick's" downfalls, we might have had more nuclear power if he were not so secretive... But we do have very safe nuclear power because he was good at recruiting folks with common sense... Ie NROTC grads with a good work ethic, and training good enlisted folks. I just got done reading a 700 page Rickover biograrphy.. Shame he was so much into self promotion, and having his political friends fixing stars for him,,, If he would have been forced into private industry we would not be having a energy crisis right now, He wrote a great speech warning about "Peak Oil" in the 1960s... Not that I belive in "Peak Oil", just "Peak Greed"

OK Ben, I should have said, Ben, you have a restricted proliferation laser,,, dont export it.

    Mea Culpa

Heroic, Welcome back.. Glad to see you here again!!! Was worried about you...

If you take anything into Canada that indicates you will be working in Canada you will be stopped by customs AND immigration. Yes, been there and it wasn't fun.

My problem was that I had 3 service manuals with the same title which clearly proved I was going to provide a service or train someone. I had to agree with their thought process and all they needed was a copy of the invoice so they could levy the appropriate taxes. Seemed simple enough but my employer was a sub contactor to IBM who paid for a block of hours in advance and this engagement was only for a few hours. My employer refused to send a copy of the invoice and the Canadian Immigration agent refused to let me leave until he received the Fax copy.

I think he felt sorry for me and let me go after a few hours.

Returning to the USA from a ILDA meeting in Canada, had a friend on board. Said friend bought a rack mount turbotrack in Canada. Returning to Country of Origin, says I. Customs guy says, "No serial number...." Well, what can we do? " It needs a serial number," says the customs guy, because the amount paid on Karl's receipt is huge... Can I scribe it a serial number with a pocket knife or screwdriver? "Yes" says the customs Guy... I ask what is needed, "date and 3 digit number"

Normally sedate and polite and prim and proper, very much Christian, Steve, well, at least I was when I was younger...
Is P.O.ed because he needs to get his friend to the Buffalo airport and drive 5- 6 hours home..

19XX-FU2 scribes I.... Karl can barely contain his laughter...

Welcome back to the USA, duty free, turbotrack..
