I mean because of the astigmatic nature of the fast/slow axis of the wide stripe multimode diode in the 650nm, at some point you'll see the focussed more intense beam inside the other.
It could, possibly be a bit more like that on the left.

    Then again...

I would have guessed 650 right as it slightly brighter.

EDIT: either way, there aint (on camera at least) that much difference.

The left looks slightly more orange to me.

    according to chroma 1.1W @ 650 should be 80.4lm vs 43.6lm for 400mW of 642

so I am happy to see the difference is not that noticeable, even if the math says it should be almost twice as bright

    ^^ What he said!

If you plot my latest combo of 400mW 640 against 500mW 532 it comes out basically green.
However if you look at the lovely oranges and nice gradients I get in my other RGY build thread, it's patently not quite right. Both were at 100% in the software.
Interestingly, if you look at the projected image on a wall, the green completely overpowers the red, but when viewing same beams through smoke coming towards you, the red shows much more boldly.

    So, to the results.

    640 is on the left
650 is on the right, so most of you were correct.

If you have looked on my other thread you'd have seen the spill on the ceiling from the right hand projector where I had the lid off later on in the session. This gave the 650 away massively.

Actually worth noting, the 650 was on standard size mirrors, so some was being lost there.

    because it quickly calculates luminance?

but not very well as in real life the output is completely different.
