Because a lot of people there really love lasers and laser light like I do. To have passionate, serious debate about important laser related issues that are respectful and stay on topic. To rationally discuss ways to improve the place so more will join and appreciate lasers and laser light. To replace wheel-spinning, negative, power-trip driven drama with spirited discussion.

That's always been the case. Something's in the way. THAT's my beef.

thats a ridiculous example, an ad for NAMBLA would only be on topic on a forum for child molesters... LPF is a forum for laser pointer enthusiasts (derr hence the name lol) so any laser company would still be relevant to the site... sure, WL is a horrible company, but even LPF says so in their "rules and stickies" are under FAQ

WL = Wicked Lasers, one of the first companies to sell high powered lasers in pen size. Does not have a good reputation around here because they are known to send out underspec units.
and anyway it should be up to the buyer to research who they are sending their money to...

now, if you ask me personaly, do I think LPF should allow ads from WL? no, not really, lets hope they are paying a lot for that space becasue as far as I am concerned WL is a bunch of douche nozzles that are probably going to get laser pointers classified as weapons which will be game over for everyone...

dude your on a forum about *LASER POINTERS* do you really expect to have a serious technical passionate discussion about lasers on there?

no offense to members of LPF but seriously 30% of them are under 17!!

    http://laserpointerforums.com/f58/how-old-we-49585.html

even here on PL where we are not busy worrying about our lasers rolling off the table we have more than our fair share of drama, so like I said, be the bigger guy, dont feed the trolls... just try to have your discussion while ignoring them and work through it.. use things like the "report post" button when someone is being a total dick and maybe the mod staff will do something about them than doing something about you when you take their bait and go off the deep end

No Norty, I'm the Drama KING!

And the presence of all those minors is 100% against the terms of use there. What respect should be allowed those who don't respect their own rules? Where's the integrity in THAT? No offense meant to the many wonderfully intelligent young people over there and here, but there are very good reasons why sophomoric attitudes, comments and trolling shouldn't be mixed up with professionals. If they're there, there should be a higher bar for them regarding behavior, and certainly a hypersensitivity to their derailment of threads off topic.

Quite funny i have been following a lot of the ARCTIC threads and like this one they never seem to stay on topic

" there should be a higher bar for them regarding behavior "

As a long term member here i could never get into LPF until recently , there was just too much noise ( well before the arctic came along ) and i was pretty surprised how much the extra arctic noise upset the regulars over there ..I thought it was a kind of free for all out of control mad place ...but having being hangoing out there for a couple of months now i started spotting there was some hugely valuable and useful info over there in amongst some of the madness and for me it became clear it was all the adverts that put me off rather the some great and interesting threads

Recently I got banned for mentioning a "win an arctic" competition i started on http://lasertainment.co.uk/forum/vie...=2&t=2&start=0 , the aim of this forum was to fill a gap when spectra became defunct ... but errr it didnt work ... so it sits there lonely and a bit of a ghost town

To get the full effect open this link

THEN a new browser page for www.lasertainment.co.uk

I am holding up two hands with five fingers on each hand (except when I am typing)...that is the total number of above average "laser engineers" at LPF...(ok well there may be 15, absolutely 20 TOPS)...the rest are retards and mental midgets who are completely clueless, laser technician wannabees with technology in their hands that they don't understand. There is life beyond cutting balloons and popping matches and electrical tape.

I would hope that this does not become a LPF vs PL battle...they are two different entities and should remain so. Very few can cross forums with ease, if they come over here talking about rolling lasers they dont last long, if we go over there, generally...we get banned because pushing others to achieve excellence isn't popular and dosnt conform to the circle jerk mentality of the rep system.

    lol ouch dude

I wouldn't call them all retards, they just don't care beyond "ooh look it can light things on fire"

as long as they don't put other people in danger then I really don't care what they do/don't do with their lasers

The "unwashed masses" there represent the enormous group of people who are drawn to laser light, quite likely because they saw shows produced by those here, and want to play with it themselves. Entry level laser enthusiasts. We ALL want more of them! The fact they have to wade through all the drama, baiting, and power trip attitudes there CAN'T be the best experience for the long term good of their interest or the laser as a hobby.

That's the reason for my passion about the place. Because with many of those drawn to it, it's about the light and the beam, not an application. Maybe it's time for the "Poppers & Burners" to start their own forum, as an application like displays or holography. Laser pointers do neither. They designate. Only takes a few milliWatts for that.

I agree with that sentiment flecom..

The percentage of really intelligent, knowledgeable people in any group is typically much smaller than the number of others who are not so. Everyone has to start somewhere, and many just don't give a fuck. That's life. The bigger the group, the more pronounced this becomes. More people with knowledge and expertise come along, but more than anything so does riff-raff.
