OK.. how does this add up? Unfortunately your test is lensed and mine is raw power which I find better because 12 different people will do lensed tests with 12 different results due to different losses in the lens.

Before today if someone would have told me an 815 diode will output 500mW @870mA I would have died laughing.

Dave’s mounts are great for raw power measuring; just reverse the diode in the mount then you can get close enough to the thermopile to capture the entire beam. Raw power measurements make it easier to evaluate results with others.

Exccellent job solarfire. I agree measuring raw output is the best to compare testing results. Have to get some lpc826 diodes of my own

How close do you place the LPM head and what size is the beam with out lens? If it's small enough I am happy to re-test sans lens as per your test.

    Hey Wayne,

5mm from the mount the beam is aproximatly 2x3 mm.

    cheers!

    Thumbs up

Nice job Dnar. This is useful data and a good presentation. Raw output would be interesting also.

i will try reply to all PM's and mails tomorrow.
if for some reason i may have not send you an reply within 24 hours please send me a direct email to danny .at. laserwinkel .dot. nl

great to see the differences of the 815 and 826
500mW with a 815 are you sure that wasnt the 826?

Cool, I'll get around to repeating the comparison sans lens later today.

I think it's safe to say I'm not getting mine since it's been >5 weeks. Oh well, guess I'll stick to sellers on my side of the pond

Absolutely.. freshly removed out of the 815 diode mount. I've got about 40 more 815s here, I'll random check a few more today. The 815s I've tested In the past graphed out pretty much like dnar's graphic except they didn't show the power drop after peaking out, they just kicked the bucket. Wayne are you sure that 815 you tested wasn't an 822 diode, they show that power down characteristic after peaking?

I'm not really a friend of kill tests, after all diodes cost money, but after finding an 815 that outputs 500mW of raw power @ 870mA and took a further beating up to 1000mA, I think I'll take a little closer look to sellectivly sort these out. I wish I had a microscope so I could see if there is a physical difference between this diode and others.

I'm not going to further kill test any 826ers since the ones I've done all died at exactly 650mA I'll take that as a rule of the 826ers.

    cheers!

I am pretty sure my 815's are 815 not 822. They where all ordered as 815 sleds. Half had the open heat sink the other half had the closed heat sink, so I tested both and the results are quite different!!!!!
