Yeah, it's amazing that we now have 1W red diodes and 1W blue diodes The beam profiles are worse tho on these reds however I believe that Logsquared has ironed out the details for taming the G71s: http://www.photonlexicon.com/forums/...t=kit+ML520G71 and he may be working on a kit for the P73s when they're available. So, dropping one of those in a projector may be easy-cheezy-lemon-squeezy

Another disappointing announcement. Now it is supposedly February on the 73's. I am getting very tired of this game. I can only suspect they are not available and they are just keeping me hanging in case they can get them. From what I have heard three different companies got samples of 5 pieces each and only a couple were sold on ebay as bare diodes one of which was the one tested over @ LPF. I am loosing optimism quick that these will be available any time soon.

Well, while we're waiting, I'll share some of my research that I collected a month or so ago. This data (or datum ?) is using a G-71 diode running at 1.1 Amp with a melles-griot prism pair :

    Lens---------------------------------------size at aperture (mm)--------------description at 100 ft----------------Power Output

    445 o-like 1/2 barrel-----------------------------5x8--------------------------------line-not too bad--------------------393
    geltech/thorlabs----------------------------------4x4--------------------------------line- not good----------------------515
    aixis std glass-------------------------------------5x7-------------------------------good line/ dot-----------------------414
    405G2-------------------------------------------- 4x5-------------------------------line - not too good------------------572
    meridith------------------------------------------------------------------------------line - not good

    FWIW ............

Is that 'aixis std glass' actually an AixiZ glass lens for red

(3 element full thread metal body AR coated for Red diodes)?

    thanks for sharing the data.

Yep, full thread and as far as I remember they are the 3 element coated for red or broadband . They have been sitting in a drawer for a couple of years so I don't have the exact specs anymore.

If you see a bluish tinge reflecting off the glass then its coated for Red. Those w/ an amber look are for 400-450nm diodes. Not sure if AxiZ ever carried any that are broadband coated. afaik AixiZ is about to offer copper modules for both 5.6 and 3.8 diodes. Made very expertly by pontiacg5.

    They have the bluish tint.

Sounds very cool. Although copper may be less rigid than , say, brass, it's still is one of the best conductors of heat and will do very nicely for heat transfer from diodes helping them keep their cool.
