While you're here, what sort of glue should I use to glue the window in place?

Have you tried gaffer tape all around the window? Mines are all fixed with well placed and cut gaffer tape, and they haven't moved a mm since years! Easiest solution, and doesn't take more place than the window itself... Of course, doesn't outgas, and removing is easy

Top, Top, Top uh.. Kit, Kit!.. ..absolutely brill werk, m8.. even to the point that, if ya ever tire of the 'mining-gig', you've prolly 'got a job waiting for you', werking at RGB! ..though, I hear it is a tad-bit chillier, up there, than Perth..

..but it's like there is no window from what I hear.

Yep, indeed, the stuff is so 'clear', it's really-easy to 'forget it's there', and mong it-up with them french-fried fingerprints! But, for when ya do, Tip: Much better than 'acetone', for cleaning the CDAR, is just some clean agua and a bit of mild liquid dish-soap, then water, again... Use a lintless-cloth or the 'kraft-type' paper-towel, for a track-free finish.. But, the stuff is super-tough, even if you have to 'buff' with the toweling, it won't scratch, unless you use something abrasive on it .. ie: no 'AJAX'..

..too, in your mount, see if you can put a slight 'tapered-shim' in the bottom, so you end-up with a very-slight 1-2˚ 'rake', shooting what little back-reflection there-is, UP, vs back, into your galvos.. ie: |\ ...Not for any-reasons of 'concern for the diodes', etc, just ensures you eliminate any of that annoying 'galvo-spindle glare' or 'ghost-reflections' off the Y.. Well-worth the little bit of extra-effort / metal, imho, to yield the cleanest-images possible...

..but yes - you are going to be *in Love* with the RGB-beam qual. - and, lol - yes, we will prolly find you in a corner clutching it, like Gollum, ..and those 'external-access convergence-spankers' - So, so, so-worth the extra-$$, those..

Looking forward to tuning into the 'Kit Channel', when launched..

Thanks Mark, hopefully it works out ok. If it does, it should allow easy access buy removing 3 sides with four screws and because of the rounded transition from the side walls to the bottom surface it should make for a good dust seal with the neoprene strip running around the edge.

Great you are thinking of scan through effects! I'm using Dave's DMX ILDA board too.

Are you planning on using his scan through servo daughter board too?

I'm interested in what gratings you are looking at as I haven't done any research yet.

The main effect I want to do is to be able to scan company logos, send them through gratings into the audience at MPE levels.
I wouldn't mind rotating 1 or more gratings via an o-ring drive too.

I sort of know what I want but I'm not sure how to pick the right gratings to achieve it and where to get them.

If I could get a job designing and building original hardware and concepts for staging effects I'd be over the moon!! Most of my opportunities with my trade are in mining in WA. It isn't the
most creative place to be working but I'm lucky this part of the world has a healthy economy atm and they need trades people so I cant complain.

I'm definitely looking at an exit strategy at some point.

It's a pretty open plan with my laser pursuits. I'm going as hard as I can afford and pushing my skills as far as they can go. I don't know where I'm going but it feels right to be
putting my energy into this.

It's one of the most satisfying experiences building this and I really appreciate that spec made it possible to make so many great friends from around the world who are totally on the same page.

Hey guys,
here are some updated pics of my progress.

I had it scanning a few weeks ago but as i still hadn't made the front and back panel and several other parts so I pulled it apart to concentrate on machining bits. Here is a short vid, sorry youtube mangled it pretty badly.

It's not held together with gaffa tape now!

I got the front and back panel CNC machined. Im very happy with how it turned out.

It was my first time sending out CAD models to a machine shop. It turned out just like the picture! makes me excited to what else I can build.

got a few smaller parts to machine still before I anodise it. Then i can wire it up properly.

Sorry for the lack of scanning pics, I've been concentrating on machining when I'm home. I promise I'll post more once the bits are all made and wired up.

I'm away for work for next 22days.... sigh... damn it I want to play lasers! a few more days when I get back and it should all be ready for anodising. cant wait.

Thanks for the tips on the window guys. I heeded your advice and designed a screw on window. I've made it so you can remove some of the screws and mount masks or divergent optics if needed. cheers for the clues.
