it would be cool if we just all sat down and each filled out the manufacturer's variance step by step, followed by a product report etc

The product report would be quite involved, as it runs 37 pages (plus additional info) and would be different for each projector. Then you need the user manual to go with it. And supporting documents (block diagrams, interlock schematics, etc). I can't see that working in a group setting.

I see what you mean. Got any ideas as to who might be willing to do it?

IMHO Dan Goldsmith is an excellent teacher and speaker. Yet... also very busy and, even for a "dumbed down" presentation of this material, I know he'd probably want to invest a lot more preparation time into it than he probably has available. That could be something to approach him about for next year. But, then again, he might be willing to do "something" impromptu. (?)

Dan has graciously agreed to put together a "class" on the subject to present at SELEM. Please understand that there is no way to cover every aspect of this topic at SELEM, as everyone has differences in their own design that could take hours to cover but, this should help to serve as a basic overview. This will be informal... and should be viewed as a "conversation among friends". There may be NO recording of any kind due to liability issues. I believe Dan will be as helpful as he can without divulging any specific "trade secrets". Yes, self certification of your own home built projector is a daunting task but, certainly not impossible and this should help to provide some solid guidelines to consider. Day/time to be dtermined.

Now.... we just need Sir Murphy to consider putting together the general "correction optics demonstration" I suggested!

    Brad -

    This is awesome!

Is this going to a "scheduled" event for the auditorium, or more of a "chat in the lobby" presentation?
I defintely want to leave some time open for this one...

It will be scheduled, but it will be a very informal presentation, and it will probably be in a classroom or in the lobby - not the auditorium. Basically it will be more like a discussion than a class. But please do block out a segment of time for it on the schedule (figure on an hour or so), because I'm sure many people will want to know when it will be held so they can attend.
