I think you're confused here Bart - re-read #13, its not Pangolin's product its Adams and his associates. It's just based in part on a Pangolin design which Bill has given them permission to incorporate.

Yet, some of the sellers/defs has the nerve to post some dubious scope plots of a competing product.

I only posted those pictures as a direct response to Andrew's initial post about there being "a whole lot of insinuation here". He was the one who started posting 'scope pics, despite the fact that until then his name and his product had NEVER BEEN MENTIONED. Up until that point we were discussing the status of a new project, and that's it.

And furthermore, as While-Light pointed out, this is not a Pangolin product. We are just using Bill's design and working from that point forward.

I hope you aren't including me in the "Pangolin Haters Club". I rather like Bill and the other employes from Pangolin (that I have met). My comments about their products have been described, in house, as sharp, but fair. The reference to their scanners was made to draw a parallel between the pre-release comments made by Bill and the pre-release comments made by Adam. Both, I believe were being honest and the preliminary information might have had an influence on someone's decision to purchase an existing product. In each case, the timing is significant. If Drlava's driver, now version 2.0, can be obtained more predictably by entering a group buy than just depending on the availability of his company's stock and the new driver is months away then I'd say go for it.

There is nothing I see to say it can't be done though if the feedback sections play nice and don't try to fight each other then it will just act like a passbank.

I am playing this smart and not comitting to any specs until we actual measure something and several other verify this. This is for the community to be vetted by the community. Bill stepped up to the plate to try and help fill a very needed void. It is not that others drivers are bad it is this. Have you tried to source a driver lately....None to be had. It is not the designs so much as the availability. I don't know who right now is going to make this new one but who ever does needs to have a game plan in place with a buisness plan to keep the flow going and to have outlets like DZ and DTR and CTLASERS, Dave, and everyone I failed to mention stock them. I will not be that person. I made a comittment to myself and others including Bill that I would never make a money in this hobby and I've kept my end and am quite upside own on this and all other laser projects.. Every show I do is community property (though it has been a while).

I can't really speak as the spokesperson for this driver as it isn't my design but I think people will have to offer up buisness plans and make comittments before they are given the driver to make and sell.

Having seen and gone over this design as well as run it in pspice, I think it is a solid basic design. No it doesn't have beam suppression and yes your diode will explode if you disconnect and reconenct the driver while it is on I think (not sure about that.The lasborb might clamp that but I don't know. Actual yes I think it might prevent that. We will see).

PS: On the spike issue. I found my spike last night. I had a bad probe. As soon as I changed probes and then went to a differential set the spike left. My spike was on the leading edge positive not what Adam sees. Scientific method says you have to duplicate results good or bad and report what you see objectively. We have one spike datapoint and several non spikes so we need to help find his spike not to say andrews driver is bad but to verify or refute the found data set. It is only through this process that we learn AS A COMMUNITY.

Done with this. Sit back and wait for the reality of the new driver to develop. As we know something we'll tell you. In the mean time Dr Lava and BADPIP and all that is out there for now. In the end you might have three to chose from all at once if we all get it together. I for one am still looking for a reliable solid driver and I hope this new one will be it. (designANDsupply)

The attached is something I made to address some of the concerns I had with flexmod like the tiny freaking little solder pads. This is a carier you drop flexmods onto to add some function and larger pads.

I was merely ranting about a certain marketing strategy that involves slandering the competition with the intent to make the advertised products look better. To me these are questionable ethics, especially if the product hasn't been brought to the market yet, especially when the testing conditions aren't mutually agreed upon. And I believe there are laws against it in the EU.

I feel pangolin uses this strategy, sometimes mildly, sometimes aggressive, but never absent. When I saw that a pangolin *spin off* product was heading in the same direction, I decided to speak up. Nothing personal.

I appreciate modesty, if a product is great, I want to find out for my self.
I don't want to be told that other products are bad. Sure they are... What company would go and praise competing products ?
I'm not a housewife without formal education who thinks "Well if a guy in a labcoat says that foam-expres makes my laundry rip/shrink/grey, at least some of it must be true"

I am working on a practical cryogenic orange laser based on a true cryostat and will produce a video of this as well. I am waiting for a spectrograph and feed back from Bill re placement of the Lasorb.

TBH Bart I know I'm known as a Pangolin supporter, but where is all this slandering?

In all honesty the only time I've ever seen an exchange of words over products was over the P. scanners vs a certain other companies scanners over certain claims made, and even I felt the debate could perhaps have been handled more tactfully. However, that doesn't make it or anything else said slander unless it is proven untrue. In the latter debate, I don't profess to know who was right and who was wrong, but it was a debate on a forum not marketing, albeit a slightly heated one.

I certainly can't think of any occasion where I can say Pangolin have deliberately criticised other companies in marketing to make their products look better. They often claim to have the best, but if that's true, then why shouldn't they claim to be the best? I can think of a certain brand of washing up liquid on UK TV that claims to be the best, so they're certainly not unique in blowing their own trumpet. Part of good marketing is you play to your strengths, so if you are the best, it pays to point that out, there's nothing wrong in that and there's nothing inherently critical in that either.
