3W is somewhat small/standard these days (but sufficient for most jobs), 7-10W could be medium and >20W big. It's also depending on the quality, a 5W high end could be as bright as a 15W low end !

Most of my projectors in the 3 watt range. But am considering grabbing some 7 waters. Mostly because I want double the red of my current projectors.

Con... Each weekend I usually run them for 30-40mins at low power (20-30% or so), only have them on full power indoors for 10-15mins; at least the last few times I brought them. Outdoors = 100%.

Why the short time? Faffing with other exciting things + sleeping.

I can DEFINITELY compare laser of different powers in a small area; but I'll give you it's somewhat easier in a large area.

An aside: All this talk of "divergence only" etc. NO. It's power density that matters. (As previously stated by other members, just restating for clarity.)
Forget any photos for comparing power; I can make a 20W laser look like a 200mW laser, and a 200mW laser look like a 20W laser on camera.
Far too many factors + operating conditions to name to say which is simply "better" (12W / 3W).
(Even just a badly setup workspace + operator can make a 10W projector look like a 3W RGB.)

Ignore all the above if you play the "megapixels" numbers game like cameras did for a while; get the 12W, as it's a bigger number.

What do you mean by a poorly setup workspace? That topic would be a good one for me to understand.

Yes, I'm curious about that too.

Do you guys put GPS trackers inside these units you dare to loan out?

GPS typically doesn't work well from inside a sealed metal box... Faraday cage and all.

I would think that these would only be loaned to businesses with appropriate financial security and some reputation. This would be similar to renting a car or or a lift truck to a company.

Why not get a 1kw IR laser and laser scan an audience of people looking for a facial peel. Charge them for the music and a face peel. Supply some IR blocking glasses. Do the same thing with 660nm high power arrays and charge for thermal skin treatments. Laser health musicals! At the end they all float into the carousel and burst into flames as they turn 30.

This depends quite heavily on what software you are using as is somewhat broader than a simple workspace file, but: all cues are not equal. Just because it looks good in the preview window does not translate to a good laser cue in reality.
Proper control + setting of scan rate, no. of points, colours, pallets, actual geometry, blanked points in some cases etc. is required for "best impact".
It takes a very long time to get a very good setup. And it's sad how many "shows" you see with the default cues; wham bam thank you mam.

In short: You know those cues which don't "look" as good as others? Fix them, or delete them.
