There are some 3x16A (20KVA) generators out there but they tend to be pretty bulky. And even then, you'd be running on the edge, since the Purelight would need a little more (22KVA) than that. You're looking at at least 30BHP of engine grunt to get there -- think the kind of power you have in a 1.3 compact family car!

We have gotten them running off of 15 Hp Ronk rotary converters, but the Ronk was getting a little warm and the cathode voltage was not where I'd like it to be. Remember Ronk builds a brick outhouse of a phase converter.

Try looking for older gensets at places that would rent jackhammers, generators, big equipment, ect.
Ive been advised by members from here to go with a genset not less than 25 Kw.
    Will there be three phase!!!!

3 phase power is not easy to come by unless you're at the work-place, (in the US anyway.) I've rarely seen homes with 3 phase power .. 230-240VAC single phase is common though (for the clothes dryers and stoves/ovens) but 3 phase is mainly run by the power companies for industries. You could give the local power comany a call though and see if they'll run 3 phase power to your house .. (lol) I doubt if that'll happen for cheap though ..

Steve-O, before some one jumps you, 3P can go into homes in some parts of Europe, and is common in apartment blocks/allotments in the US with the phases split between apartments/houses.

While is is always wise to use a oversized gen, I'm just saying I've gotten away with less draw.

Ok, I believe you Steve, you're the expert.. I don't really know about Europe and apartment-blocks an' such .. I just wonder why someone would need 3-phase power in their home? I guess they could have some heavy-duty equipment in there for the occasional high-power-kegger-big-band-laser and pyro-show on the weekends sometimes .. ;]

Europe likes one big transformer for a few blocks radius, and the US likes one per house. So a three phase water heater, electric heat, or dryer starts to look good in terms of reduced copper, there.

Steve-o, google "Ring Main" or "Ring Mains", you might just like it, as much as you like to build carbon arc lights. Yes, the sample one you gave me still works.......

In the UK, a row of house on a road will have the same phase every third house so if your friendly with two of your neighbours, on the same side, either side of you, you could tap into their Dis-board and have L1, L2 & L3 - 3phase

Dang, sounds like beer, copper, and creative scheduling, or a nice land-lord, and you get to run your ion systems at home.
    Must move to UK,,,,,,,,
