I think you are right - I think those figures are for the factory water/water exchanger. And from reading I think there is nothing with the laser so as you point out the head figures for DI are whats needed. Going on the size of the 'scope water/air exchanger from a 6kW switcher I think that sorta size should do - I bet there's one or 2 of them knocking around - so then its just pump n plumbing.

    Hi

Just to confirm the laser is just the head and power supply. The heat exchanger IS missing. so the head has the pipes for the Di water, but no heat exchanger or chiller. I do however have the pipe fittings and a couple of bottles of DI water, but nothing to circulate the water through

    Cheers

    Hi Rob,

In my pile of accumulated bits i have a number of stainless radiators and fans a couple of them double and a spare pump. Also two complete yag cooling systems. As i said yesterday was considering coming to the show and could lend them for the occcasion, but not definite yet.

    Regards

    Rob,
As you will know there is a bit of maths involved if one is not going to cook the equipment, thats why i was asking if there were any manufacturers recommended flow rates and head figures. My smallest pump can provide 5.2 l/min at 8.7 Bar It is just then a case of some maths to work out the number of rads required to keep it all cool I run my Yag with four radiators for safety.

    Hi all,

Just had the following from the manufacturer. Bear in mind these are US Gallons!

"The pressure through the head will end up being low, but dependent on the flow rate. I can’t give you an exact graph of pressure versus flow rate, but basically the head flows freely and there is no reason to expect significant pressure in the head.

That said, the pump we use is rated for 40 gph and up to 100psi. We run it from a 1/2hp motor."

    Kind Regards

    Steve ,
    That's good info.
The spec of your cooling system is therefore a medical grade stainless steel or ceramic pump delivering 40 us gph at up to 100ps. With a cooling facility (air to water) or (water to water) able to clear, if we assume all power going in converts to heat in order to give a safety margin, of 220v x 30amp 6.6kw pretty much where rob suggested last night. For a water to air setup you will need some medical grade stainless steel radiators and fans. For a water to water setup you will need a heat exchanger and a supply of tap water to cool down the heat exchanger.
To properly complete the job you will require:
    A header tank
    Flow pressure sensor
    Temperature Sensor
    Particle filter
    De-ionising filter
    Water level sensor
The ultimate would be a de-ionised water purity sensor.

Plus a flow sensor for the tap water if you use a heat exchanger
    Hope that helps

    Regards

    Steve

    esbe,

Sorry for the delay in replying to your very comprehensive response. work has been manic recently and I have just come back from a trip overseas where I had no Internet access. Will you be coming to Surfleet? If so could you bring a chiller so we could fire this laser up. It would be great just to get a feeling for what would be needed and also chat with you about the various options. I will also ask the manufacturer for details of what interlocks may be needed, but I think I have the necessary connectors, so we may have a chance just to discuss what is needed here to make any tril at Surfleet a success.

I have had so many messages from people asking if we can get this going I know any help you could give would be really helpful and popular.

    Kind Regards

    Steve
