Why am I hearing Don Lafontaine's voice? "In a world, dominated by green DPSS power....."

Please don't be sarcastic; I contributed many times here for people to have cheaper options.

I think many people benefited from a magical 2mm lens one-upon-a-time, I never made a dime from my efforts but many others did; who I add didn't contribute even a sentence to the cause.

This development is exciting in one hand but an important thing to note which does not give me good vibes is this diode can and likely will destroy peoples jobs in many sectors, the blue 445 was one thing but this green has far wider implications that will rock the show laser business on a grand scale.

You may get in the end a very low price green, but in the end so will you friend down the street; you know the other guy with lasers who charges 100 euros for a show with 4 lasers. I am not a fan of helping a guy down the street to cut his friends profits but for me Lasers are a passion and development inspires me; that is why I am a PL member and that is why I contribute.

I like the idea of this green simply because I had too many dam DPSS fail; I must have spent 100,000 dollars on DPSS over the years and have a ton of sick heads that soon will have only scrap value.

In the end the winners in this race will be our lovely friends in China bless em

I doubt my diodes will be in my hand before 2014.

    Have a nice Christmas

Somewhat agree with this, however a few thoughts.

This new diode will allow some of us to gain very high power combined green at very low cost (assuming the price drops to that of the blues ) not everybody will be able to combine 8, even 16 diodes easily/ cheaply

It's all going to come down to the quality of the show, and to be honest whilst there are a lot more people here doing the ass end shows, very few of them do good shows..

Actually Dave; No matter how hard I try to convince myself I am wrong; PRICE is becoming more and more the governing factor.

I talked about the same with my friend recently, but in a musical context. You spent thousands of dollars on a music studio or a musical instruments earlier. Now they are available to almost everyone, but where's a tons of good music? The final product is made by people, not diodes.

Truer words have never been spoken. The quality of a show still resides with the laserist. This is one of the main reasons why I don't do commercial shows, I know I don't have the chops to cut it. Sure, I could undercut some of the pros, but I wouldn't be able to bring what they could to the eyes of the audience, not even close.

Naw, in the topsy turvy world of laser shows, only two groups win. The bottom feeding ravers who spend other sources of income on their shows, and those that have very high power systems and social connections. Been there, done that, got the tee shirt. Andy is right, 1 watt Green diodes are going to have an impact.

Besides, very, very few shows these days are anything other then Quickshow Ques.

The ones we are seeing for sale are not pulls, they are shown in "pick and place" trays, which means whoever backdoors the 445s got whole trays of these.

The only way to make money now is to have 5 or 10 large projectors and the cabling to support them.

Agreed, now prices are down, promoters/designers want to treat lasers like moving head fixtures and throw lots of them at a gig.

So for the smaller events/artists/pockets, getting as many heads in as possible comes above quality of projector and 'art'.

Certainly in UK/Europe, 3-4W RGB heads are going to be very handy for a LOT of venues, and the price could mean they are purchasable in bulk.

1W 520, 1.5W 445, 700mW 637. 3 diodes, 1 driver, 1 PSU (see my recent thread on this subject) thanks very much! How small can we go? Well that Pangolin digi scanner amp is looking compelling too

You are using Bonetti's defense against me, ah?

I thought it fitting, considering the rocky terrain.
