Ok, and what would the lead time be on a USB version with display?

Presently I've got orders for 5 USB (No displays) and a proportionate # of Pro's. I'm estimating that I'll have all the components for the builds I've got outstanding to be 2-3 weeks tops and then from there I can take new orders (once I recieve a new order the unit can be built that same day) The only thing preventing me from completing those orders right now is 1. I'm waiting for the printed overlays I ordered to finish and arrive. 2. I've had to develop a circuit to stabalize the dc/dc converters noise levels to a more clean signal. I've now done this and have ordered all the inductors and capacitors I need to do this.

Question, will it be sold with this head:

or a different head?

The exact same head yes.

So... if I understand... it will be like the Lite model but with PC Data Logging...
Will it be in the same RadioShack box as the Lite..

I don't think I've see a photo of that one...

that is because it's something I came up with just recently to accomodate some members here who wanted just a panel display. Heck, I haven't even put one together yet.

Does the power need to be exactly 5v or would it run off 3xAA batteries?
Is there space to accomodate a power source like this in the case?

I'm really struggling to decide between a USB model with display or a Laserbee Deluxe as the price is very similar (within £25 or so). I want to be able to measure as a standalone unit when required, but obviously this would require power to do so, which the Laserbee manages with its onboard battery. However yours has a higher power rating which is always useful for the future and so may be a better investment.
Hoiwever lead times are a bit higher than I might like.... decisions decisions Anything you can say to sway me either way? By PM if you'd rather keep it that way.

That was my approach, once I found out I could restore a used Scientech head with some carbon-loaded varnish and a fan to agitate the surface as it dried to prevent any sheen developing.

I read your article on that Carbon-Loaded Varnish mixture... I even tried it at one point a
while back...
I have a question...
Your Scientech Head that you restored... how much power can it take before it affects your
new coating... I couldn't get more that ~300-400mW on it before it smoked and left some
whitish/grey trails on the surface.
Maybe I used the wrong varnish... but the carbon powder I got from a local Mini-Brewer..

Actually I could also run it off batteries as well. I am including a set of 14500's with the pros as well as a charger and could do the same thing with the usb. The MCU has a onboard voltage regulator and when used can be driven off anything from 7-12v So even a 9v battery would work in that instance.

Not a problem, I also read that article on teh coating and am curious myself. I'm also very interested in the amplifier circuit as this could make the Kenometer work with literally any thermopile.

Thanks for your input Doc....
IIRC we used a beam diameter near 1-2 mm....
But like you stated... keeping the beam as large as possible on
the Active Area of the sensor will allow much higher power Lasers
to be used...
