So this site is all about laser show type lasers?

@ Jon ..... haha .... i will buy one
all the best ... Karl
Come on guys.... Am I the only one to feel that we're sometimes a little harsh on newcomers to PL?
I hate when I go to join other forums and your first post is crushed with comments that seem very 'clique'. O.K., so he came here to sell a laser, and his first post is a sales post (which I know we don't like). But are we being any better than the 'other' forum when we greet a newcomer in the way we have done here. It's not as though he is a spammer, he's just a guy(?) that's trying to sell a 'one off' laser.
I like to think of myself as tolerant of most people and groups of people, this is what's wrong with the world today and I feel ashamed that we've treated someone who we don't know to this sort of welcome. You never know, we may just have frightened off a person who has a lot to contribute to our community, shame on you.
Rob77T, I apologise for the way you've been treated here. I personally would like to welcome you here to PL and I hope that you will not be discouraged by the posts in this thread. For the record, it's always a good idea to introduce yourself and tell us a little about your experience with lasers and how you came to 'see the light'. For the most part members here are not too keen on laser pointers (that's not to say that some members don't own one
). The majority of members here are more into laser projectors and producing laser shows for entertainment purposes.
Anyway, Welcome to Photonlexicon. Please fill out your location in your profile, read some posts and stick around, you never know you just might enjoy being here despite the rather shaky welcome
Regards
Jem

Perhaps we were a bit harsh but to be honest, I was a little dismayed that the very first post was a sales post and the sale was was for a pointer. The seller's location is also unknown. Three things that don't jive in a sales thread on PL. The other thing that didn't jive with me was that the OP didn't really check out the forum before trying to sell or they would know that this forum does not really do the pointer thing. A few members here do pointers but not many. Most of the people that do pointers also belong to the other forum and that forum has already banned him for popping on and slinging his item.
Again, maybe we were harsh but it does get tiresome when people come on here and try to sell without even reading up on what we are about. We are not ebay...

If you're the smartest person in the room, then you're in the wrong room.
^^
Exactly my thinking on this. It demonstrates a lack of awareness and courtesy of an existing community. It is basically like barging into an enthusiasts' meeting, setting up a stall in the middle of the room to sell the very thing most of those enthusiasts have discussed serious concerns over the safety of.
Aaah, come on Sir Jem.. you know everybody here has to pass thru the fire, at least once..Think of it as a 'cleansing process from the evils of pointerbation'...
..ya know, 'tough love' / rescue from that 'slippery-slope'..
The chap has been welcomed to 'stick around and learn', a) at what joys lie in 'real' builds, and b) yeah, that 'this ain't eBay'... and it's important for people to learn that quickly, ie: http://www.photonlexicon.com/forums/...522#post256522 - this kind of repeat-shinola is downright abuse, imo..
...So, best Mr Rob, here, is 'helped' - now - to see the true-value of PL is far-beyond hawking something that rolls off the table..Plus, I'm sure many people - like myself - clicked on the link because it was not *explicitly* labeled a 'pointer' or 'handheld'... won't 'assign motive' of calling intention, but.. certainly, a waste of time for those that clicked expecting a module...
Rob - sorry if my 't-shirt' post offended ya.. Am *not* 'mocking you', directly - it's more of a jab at the 'culture' and atmosphere of LPF vs PL.. here, even for a 'bad-form' 1st-post sales-pitch - and for a pointer, no-less - no one's nuked ya, or is 'chasing you away'... besides, it's also a 'contrast-statement' of the phenomenon that is 'SELEM', and how that has helped many 'recuperating LPFers'..expand their horizons... do a search on the past-SELEMs / check out some of the vids, etc.. Maybe you can even plan to come and meet every crazy one of the attendees.. it's a blast.. And, hey! whattaya know - some people even bring those cylindrical-things that shoot a laser-beam out of the focusing-ring!

Re-read my post this morning. I have to say that if it had been me (as a newcomer) I would have responded to the post and at the very least amended my profile as requested.
Ah well...

I guess I should of done a intro. I would of looked stupid probably talking about pointers rather than projectors though.
suppose you're thinkin' about a plate o' shrimp. Suddenly someone'll say, like, plate, or shrimp, or plate o' shrimp out of the blue, no explanation. No point in lookin' for one, either. It's all part of a cosmic unconciousness.
