    Default Which scanners

    Hi everyone,

I'm currently collecting all the bit's n pieces I need for building a RGV projector. I've built 3 projectors before, and they were all made in wood cases. I have built one out of HP Deskjet motors with home built drivers and software. Next I moved up to MOT2 steppers and after that I learned ALOT from building a projector using Norm's galvo set and DAC.

Right now I'm planning on a projector built with some cheap laser modules (bluray and (maybe dual) rohm diodes). But I do want some good scanners to go with them. This is because I might want to upgrade in the future and having some good scanners is a nice start.

So that's why I have made a list in excel of some of the scanners I've found here on the forum and specs. But I feel that the list is incomplete and I'm afraid that not all (affordable) scanners are in the list. Could you help me out and try to make the list complete?

My personal experience is that I've had three sets of galvos. One was a DT40, one was a Scanpro40, and the most recent is a CT6800HP. The CT is hands down the best scanner, but it's also hands down the most expensive. After that it was the DT40s, those were nice but had big mirrors so the performance wasn't quite what it should have been, and then there's the ScanPros. I've managed to destroy two pairs of ScanPros. I suspect that when operated at spec they have very little design margin and "slightly dodgy" ILDA files can over-push them to the point where they die.

The CT6800HPs are lovely. Wide-ass scans and fast too. The only thing you have to decide is, is it worth the $1400 it costs to get a set? This is at 20 degrees and 40k:

While i dont have a set of CT scanners, i am learning the hard way that you are better off buying right once than skimping and dealing with all the bull of lesser quality gear.

I have gone through 3 set of crap Chinese scanners ( meant to be 30 K) and currently have a set of laser world 50 K scanners (dont run at this speed unless you much around with them) whick i run at 19 K so they have a long life cycle.

The next set of scanners i invest in will with out fail be CT, In my opinion they will have the most impact on the quality of your projector, expecially when you want ot get beyond beam shows in to graphic files or anumnation

Go for CT's and you would not have to worry in the future.

Its not just a case of using ct drivers, some none ct amps work faster than original ct when driving ct scanners.

    Default 20k or 30k?

Which ones are the best: 20 kHz scanners at 20° scanangle or 30 kHz at 8°?
