I think Mario (Ragdoll) will have plenty of XLR cable, as he is the guy who is setting up the sound system this year. Feel free to send him a PM and discuss the layout though. (Note: Brad (Bradfo69) is also involved in the sound setup, so you might want to copy him in on any PM's.)
I like the idea of trying to set up a mixer and a master laser control station in the back, and that was my plan for this year. But we'll have to see how much room we have to work with back there. I think it's actually going to be more crowded back there than on stage this year. (This year we'll have the curtians closed, so we can arrange the tables more efficiently, but there isn't much room at the back of the auditorium.)
Your hints have not gone unnoticed. There are some issues with a single control station layout. Not everyone is running the LD-2000, remember. So the master control station will need to change when someone wants to run an FB3 show, or a show running off a sound card DAC, for example. We'll have lots of those this year, and we need to be flexible.
Having everything on stage makes it easy to swap cables, since everything is right there. Putting a master control station at the back of the house complicates things. Still, I'm willing to give it a try this year.
Again, we need to remember that we have to accomodate multiple playback formats. It may be that we'll have to swap out the control compuer a few times... I honestly don't know how it will work out just yet.I think we've gotten big enough that we need to think about treating the SELEM auditorium like we were putting on a show for customers (we certainly have the gear!!) -
A commercial show doesn't have these problems, because 1) you would be using the same type of controller for everything, and 2) the entire show would be scripted in advance. SELEM is never going to be organized like that.

Damn! I was on the other end of the cord (playing guitar) when the sound/light-man was doing all of his wizadry. (I should have been paying more close attention to what he was doing.) The lights were in my eyes.I did do some pyrotechnic stuff tho .. I might be needing lessons in DMX, DACs and lighting software and such if any of you-all would be so kind ..
lessee.. the galvos connect to the amps.. the amps connect to the . hmm .. DAC .. the dac goes thru a printer port (?) to the laptop loaded with spaghetti or pangolin or summatt .. ?
Close... galvos and lasers connect to an ILDa breakout board that puts a connection on the back of the projector which connects to the DAC which IS the printer port... (DB25 plug). The DAC could be an internal PCI card or USB connected device. There are a fwe boxes out know that you install the DAC in and the box connects to the PC via ethernet.
