Beautifully said.Nice Kit!
You are taking anal to a new level.
And I mean that in the nicest possibly way!
But, seriously, that workmanship is top notch. How could the beams that exit that case be misaligned or even diverge. The pressure is on.

Hehheh, i can picture you doing a face palm saying " just finish it already!"
BTW I'm taking a couple of weeks off after the 7th of September if you are in town, would be good to catchup if your free
Thanks EricHeh funny you should say that, I made a couple of machining errors.... I mean design features
there has been more than one @$#^&%$&%& moment during the process. They aren't that noticable... but Damn It I know they are there!
Thanks CDBEAMI'm very fortunate that I found PL with soo many people like yourself who have gone before me and done the hard yards learning how it all works and shareing the knowledge.
While I've still got so much too learn, I thought i wouldn't re-invent the wheel on my first projectors. But it doesn't hurt to put some pimpin rims on those wheels and drop the suspension
Can I eat it? um I already have! carbon fibre dust wasn't as tasty as it looks....and itchy... "Hay Doc, whats with this itching?" Oh man! I knew a high maintenance show pony whould get me into trouble![]()

nice build Kit!! cool idea with the carbon fiber. very inspiring.
That is just stupid sexy...And, you have already "arrived", as I'd buy one!
I was mentioning it briefly at SELEM so, hopefully people will check out this thread.
Thanks MichaelI'm really happy the carbon lid turned out. After being involved in making it, I understand why carbon can be so expensive. For it to be done properly, its very labour intensive. I'm very lucky I have such a high calibre friend (Thanks Rick
) who helped and guilded me. the final shape came out perfectly and it is very ridgid. I made a few mistakes in making and designing the mould which increased the labour in making it and finishing it off. I'd change some of the geometry next time. Vacuum forming polycarbonate or pressing out of aluminium whould have been other options but I went with carbon as it didnt require as much expensive tooling as pressing and looked more pimp than plastic
Hey Brad ThanksI'm really happy you guys are liking it. It's has been very satisfying to put all my effort into this and get a result I'm proud of. I've spent a lot of years using my skills as a fitter/machinist in automotive R&D, general engineering,
non destructive testing and currently I'm in mining. While I'm very thankful for the time and oportunities I've had in these fields, they don't offer the creative possibilities I'm looking for.
I totally freed myself of most rational constraints when building and designing this. It was simply to build the highest quality, asthetically pleasing and functional projector I could afford.
I made the "compelling" comment to make a distinction, as in this current iteration it probably isn't truly compelling to anyone except myself when its cost it taken into consideration.
If it was for a business, I think an RGBlasersystem Compact6 is the more compelling choice. It being, lighter, smaller and costing less. Mine has The IRIS ColorSafe and room for scan through diffraction gratings but essentially it's a Campact6 in different clothing.
My design brief allowed me to be a be a bit indulgent so I went with a few "because I can" choices.
I dont know exactly what RGBlasersystem's design breif was but when you look at the Compact6, I'm pretty sure they achieved exactly what they were after. It truelly is a beautifully elegant machine. It doesn't have a scrap of unnessecary fluff, keeping it trully comact and light and very functional. It's very seviceable too. You gain entry to its insides via a slide out lid after unscrewing only a few screws.
I'm going to make a couple of satalites with very similar design. I haven't started yet but with what I've learn't I know I can make them so they are in a much more economically viable ballpark.
I hadn't considered getting involved in selling projectors as It's an increadibly fierce business from what I can tell but If there are a few peole who are interested in something like this, it's not out of the question. It would definitely be a step in the direction of a more creative future
Stay tuned for some more pics in a couple of weeks when I get home.
Cheers

Hey guys,
It's getting pretty close now!
I've finished all the parts now except for the components for the scan through effects. I'm going to do that later when I have the projector build and running. I dropped off the ali bits yesterday to get anodised. There ended up being 30 machined parts!! yeeesh.
Here are a few pics of the parts and also the internal guts.
It turned out a bit heavier than I anticipated. It's a bit over 17kg. But at 27kg including a wheeled Pelican case it wont break the bank to fly with it. I'm pretty sure I remember seeing a 3phase cable powering a 7w ion whitelight rig a few years back that probably weighed more![]()
So, next Melbourne LEM I won't come empty handed.
Here is the window surround I made.
Thanks for all your tips regarding the window. I went for the external surround and put 4.5deg tilt on it. I went for 8x m4 cap screws to secure it which looks a bit over kill but i can remove some to mount aperture masks or divergent optics if needed.
Hopefully ill have pics of some anodised parts in a few days.
Cheers
Kit

Looking forward to catching up on the weekend, we are gunna have some fun!
What's the date for the MELBLEM? I have a valid reason to go there now, one of my daughters lives/works there.![]()
This space for rent.
Hey Dave!
Cheers man.
when I get the call from there anodisers, I'll turn the getaway music on and be there to pick them up in minutes flat. OK I'll obey the speed limit but I cant promise I wont tailgate
Hopefully Wayne is free next week to run his eyes over the wiring but i might need to give you a call incase there are any specifics we cant figure out ourselves.
