Yes but.... can you build a Mach mini amp and have it inside a glossy box along with said scanner and all necessary cables and an official price tag in 21.5 days? We're already a little upset about there being no DK EZ Router in time.... don't fail us now!!

All of these were prominently featured at the last FLEM. And we also discussed the USB-WAVE units that DZ makes (though I don't think we had one present). Those are very interesting! In fact, as a direct result of the discussions at FLEM, I decided to purchase one of these units from DZ last month.

Then too, we also had the new Pangolin FB4 and the compact 506 scanners present at FLEM last time. Those were absolutely new and interesting, although I'll grant you that they were from a manufacturer.

I still think there are lots of cool new things to see and do at a LEM, whether it's in Florida or North Carolina or the UK or the island of Utila in the Caribbean. As for the abundance of Pluto II projectors at the last FLEM, you could have brought your projector and your beam rails to even the playing field a bit. That being said, this year at SELEM we will have lots of other gear besides just Plutos.

Well, you are in a unique position in that you currently own a great deal of laser show content on ADAT, and you have also worked in a planetarium in the past running shows, so it might be that you are simply burned out from watching the same shows over and over.

But laser shows are just 1 part of what happens at SELEM. I'm sure there are other things you'd find enjoyable. (And for the record, I don't think I've ever had time to watch more than an hour or two of laser shows at ANY SELEM, just because there are so many other things competing for my time.)

Fair enough but..... think about how you're going to feel on or about Friday the 14th, knowing in the back of your mind that SELEM is going on and, perhaps daring to read any posts or seeing pictures and suddenly realize, holy shit... I made a mistake.

Having been to SELEM, FLEM, CarribLEM, and soon to add NWLEM and NELEM, I know that for me personally, if I couldn't or chose to not be there and then, read or really thought about what I was missing in Utila, or Newton or whatever, I'd end up in even more of a funk.

By the same token, I understand burnout too. I was involved in growing orchids prior to lasers and was heavily involved in my local society, had a greenhouse, hundreds of plants and all that shit and now... I can hardly bring myself to even look at a stupid phalaenopsis when walking through Home Depot. The allure is gone. It happens with lasers to some degree too. I can't tell you the number of times I've been on the brink of "fuck it".

But, since SELEM for me is more about the people than it is the lasers anyway, there's no way I want to miss several days of hanging with buffo, DZ, dkumpula, hak, you, X-Laser, Aaron, etc......

So sorry I missed this earlier! The key word in your phrase though, Brad was "a LITTLE taller". When people possess semi-dwarf proportions as we do, the difference between an inch or two is a non issue. That said, I wouldn't mind impersonating (or confiscating) your awesome stack of photon loveliness that you so generously bring to each LEM.

In regards to the later comments insinuating (my read) boredom with or lack of new content: For those young enough for the 'thumpy-thumpy' music, the live stuff that occurs in ClubSELEM is by definition new.
For the auditorium, there have been multiple hours of content added each of the past few years and I assume before I started attending (SELEM 5). This year, I'm bringing a couple hours of new 6 projector beam content in addition to the several hours of content that I've brought in recent years. Some of the new stuff is my own, some is new stock from Medialas optimized for the auditorium environment, and some of it is from older content that wasn't converted / played in prior years.

We also know we will have multiple new shows from Swamidog, Saltyrobot, Kang and others coming this year. You may have seen videos of some of this content posted here on PL previously, but I doubt that many people prefer to see laser content on YouTube. I'm excited to see the new content and the best of the plethora of older quality content that has graced the auditorium in years past.

I'd bank that like prior LEMs, SELEM 9 will be loads of fun for anyone who likes laser hardware, laser software, laser shows or hanging with like-minded lasering folks!

suppose you're thinkin' about a plate o' shrimp. Suddenly someone'll say, like, plate, or shrimp, or plate o' shrimp out of the blue, no explanation. No point in lookin' for one, either. It's all part of a cosmic unconciousness.

i think you should list swamidog twice.

I'm sure Brad didn't mean to exclude anyone! It's just that in order to post a complete list of who he likes to meet and hang out with at SELEM, he would need to post the entire guest list...

We are going to have some new faces this year, and some new equipment, and some new shows. Club-SELEM should be really impressive this year. We plan to have 5 separate truss systems in there! (Which reminds me - Brad and Dave K: My new triangle truss just arrived. Will assemble tonight and see how it looks!)

    Frank:

I know what you mean about getting burned out. It happens to the best of us. DZ has tried to escape the laser hobby 3 times in the past, and yet he keeps coming back. You will return, I'm sure of it. (Resistance is futile!)

I know it's a lot of money to spend (hotel, meals, driving, etc), but it ends up being such a fun time that I think it's worth it. I hope you change your mind about coming. We're going to miss you if you don't.

    Adam
